TransformAr – Lessons learnt from TransformAr solutions
Publication date: 30 September 2025 | Report language: EN
TransformAr is a Horizon 2020 project funded by the European Union that brings together 22 partners to accelerate and upscale transformational adaptation to climate change across Europe. The project demonstrates innovative solutions addressing water-related climate risks through five categories: awareness raising and behavioural change, governance schemes, nature-based solutions, digital and technological innovations, and insurance and financial mechanisms. These solutions are tested in seven demonstrator regions with diverse geographical and socio-economic contexts: Guadeloupe (France), Egaleo (Greece), Galicia (Spain), Oristano (Italy), the West Country Region (United Kingdom), Lappeenranta (Finland) and Gjovik (Norway).
This report captures the experiences of implementing 17 innovative climate adaptation solutions across Europe. It synthesises key achievements, challenges, and lessons learnt from diverse demonstrator regions, highlighting what drives or hinders effective climate adaptation on the ground. By documenting practical insights, the report contributes to knowledge sharing and provides valuable recommendations for future replication of adaptation initiatives. Its main contribution lies in showing how local experimentation can inform broader strategies for resilience and transformational change.
Technopolis France, commissioned by the French Agency for Ecological Transition – ADEME, developed two complementary deliverables within the TransformAr project that capture both the lessons learnt from implementing innovative climate adaptation solutions across Europe and a practical tool to assess their potential for replication in new contexts.
