Erik Arnold and Anete Vingre presented the results of the International Evaluation of Scientific Institutions in Latvia on 9 April in Riga at the University of Latvia. The evaluation provides a comprehensive assessment of research performance in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The evaluation shows that Latvia\u2019s research system has made significant progress<\/strong> since the previous assessment delivered by Technopolis in 2019. Improvements are evident in research quality, international collaboration, infrastructure development, and doctoral training. Notably, the share of research units achieving the highest performance levels has increased substantially, reflecting a positive overall trajectory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A particular strength highlighted by the evaluation is the strong societal engagement<\/strong> of Latvian research institutions. Across disciplines, researchers actively contribute to policy development, public debate, and the broader societal good, underscoring the important role of research in supporting evidence-based policy and a resilient society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the same time, the evaluation identifies several key challenges<\/strong> that remain important for future development. These include the need to strengthen international scientific impact, build greater critical mass in priority areas, and further support high-quality, curiosity-driven research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Technopolis designed the evaluation methodology in line with the Ministry of Education and Science requirements. The evaluation was conducted by international Expert Groups and coordinated by Technopolis, following a peer-review-based methodology that combines qualitative assessment with responsible use of indicators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The findings provide a robust evidence base to support future policy development, funding decisions, and institutional development for the continued advancement of Latvia\u2019s research system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","solution":[145],"sector":[130],"class_list":["post-66103","new","type-new","status-publish","hentry","solution-evaluation-es","sector-research-innovation-es"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
