Public financing of news media in the EU

Publication date: 1 February 2024 | Report language: EN

Henningsen Consulting, Technopolis and academic experts prepared a study on public news media financing in the EU. The study, first of its kind, mapped the available support in EU Member States for news media. News media sectors in the EU have been under unprecented pressures caused by decreasing advertising revenues, changing news media consumption habits, and disinformation. The study, prepared for the European Commission (DG CNECT), provides a holistic overview of different types of public financing schemes available for news media across the EU to support news media plurality, independence and quality.
