The study, \u00ab\u00a0Reviewing the contribution of the Land use, Land-use Change and Forestry to the European Green Deal\u00a0\u00bb informed the European Commission’s DG Climate and Action in their development of an impact assessment for the revision of the LULUCF Regulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The study was conducted by a consortium consisting of Technopolis Group, COWI, Silvestrum Climate Associates, LLC, and Exergia. The study provides an analysis of seven fundamental topics within the LULUCF sector, presenting the main drivers and challenges within the context of improving the capacity of the sector to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. It provides the views from experts and civil society through research as well as collaboration through workshops and the OPC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The study significantly contributed to the legislative proposal for an updated LULUCF regulation to meet the requirements of the European Green Deal. The updated regulation will set a binding commitment for each Member State to ensure that accounted emissions from land use are entirely compensated by an equivalent accounted removal of CO2 from the atmosphere through action in the sector. The Regulation enshrines the commitment for the first time in EU law for the period 2021-2030.
