Dominik Obeth and Jan Biela had the opportunity to present the results of the Base4NFDI evaluation at the CoRDI conference in Aachen on 26 August 2025. Base4NFDI is a joint initiative of all consortia of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) for the development of basic services that can be significant for all NFDI consortia and beyond.

The evaluation focussed on the processes, project structure and relevance of Base4NFDI. The results are largely positive. Among other things, we recommend the creation of long-term funding models, a sharpening of the application and funding process, a strengthening of strategic considerations in the current bottom-up process, as well as the establishment of a ‘task lead’ level in the project structure to promote faster decision-making and to improve coordination.
