Maria is a Data Scientist with over six years of experience developing AI-driven solutions for healthcare and public health. Her expertise spans machine learning for healthcare research, epidemiological modelling, disease surveillance, and AI-powered early warning systems.

Before joining Technopolis, Maria worked as a Data Scientist at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), where she developed AI-enabled automation for disease surveillance and early warning systems, leveraging Large Language Models and other advanced AI technologies. Prior to that, she was a Research Data Scientist at Stockholm University, leading machine learning research projects in healthcare and serving as Co-Principal Investigator on a European Commission-funded AI initiative.

In addition to her research experience, Maria has contributed to higher education through teaching and curriculum development in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Maria holds a Ph.D. in Computer and Systems Sciences from Stockholm University and a joint Master’s degree in Health Informatics from Karolinska Institute and Stockholm University. She is proficient in Python, R, SQL, and modern machine learning frameworks. A native Greek speaker, she is fluent in English and proficient in Swedish.
