Dr. Jan Sodoge is a Consultant in the Frankfurt office of the Technopolis Group, specializing in the development and application of data-driven methods. His expertise combines the use of Data Science and stakeholder-based participatory modeling, particularly in the analysis of climate impact research and adaptation. Methodologically, his work focuses on the application of text mining and machine learning.
Before joining the Technopolis Group, he worked at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, first as a doctoral researcher and later as a scientific staff member. In his doctoral research, he examined cross-sectoral impacts of droughts using text-mining approaches and participatory modeling. Subsequently, he also applied text-mining methods to analyze flood impacts, map groundwater conflicts, and develop recommendation systems for scientific conferences. A notable achievement was a method he co-developed for the automated extraction of drought impacts from newspaper texts, which was awarded the Best Scientific Telegram at the Helmholtz Data Science Conference 2021. This approach is now also being used in projects of international organizations such as the World Meteorological Organization.
In addition to his doctorate, he holds a Master’s degree in Computational Social Science from Linköping University (Sweden) and a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Science and Geography from the University of Osnabrück. He is fluent in English, German and has basic knowledge of French.
