Mariline Vieira is passionate about international development and the role small and medium-sized firms play in fostering an inclusive and sustainable development, she is a Principal Consultant with more than 15 years of international experience in-and-on research and policy work.

She has an extensive experience across international organizations, the private sector, and NGOs. Her most recent role, a decade-long tenure as Team Leader equipped her with a strong background in policy analysis and knowledge dissemination as well as honing the ability to design and implement complex projects and conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative research. She has developed an expertise in data collection and processing through questionnaires, standardized case studies, interviews, and field visits. She has co-authored and translated research findings into actionable policy reform recommendations for more than twelve knowledge reports about SMEs regulations and their implementation—across multiple continents, including Africa, Asia, and Europe. These reports, funded by external donors or respective governments, served as public policy tools. They provided a diagnostic and monitoring framework for policymakers, offering actionable data, detailed analyses and tailored reform recommendations.

She has also worked in microfinance, where she helped establish the first branches of a financial inclusion group in Mexico and Madagascar. She also has experience in business development for small entrepreneurs in France. She holds a master’s degree in development economics from the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France.

Fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, she has managed projects and teams and authored reports in all four languages.
