As part of a consortium with Bocconi University and KU Leuven, Technopolis studied, on behalf of the European Commission, DG Research and Innovation, the patent\/technology out- and in-licensing behaviour of European firms. To this end, Technopolis launched the largest and most detailed survey on patentees in Europe to date. Based on responses of 330 patent-holding firms, the PATLICE survey found that the importance of licensing increased considerably across all major patent-affine industries between 2008 and 2011. The report discussed issues such as motives and barriers for technology out- and in-licensing, it scrutinised the ways licensors made contact with licensees or traced the licensing revenue flows across countries and regions.
