Technopolis Group opened its first German office in Frankfurt in 2009 and a second office in Berlin in 2017.  It has established itself as one of Germany’s leading science, technology and innovation policy consultancies.

Our experts from various disciplines from innovation economics to environmental economics, political science, engineering and other disciplines accompany the entire policy cycle for public sector clients:

  1. We advise on the design of new funding strategies and instruments.
  2. We implement programs and initiatives for our clients, often in close collaboration with our international sister offices.
  3. We accompany and evaluate policy measures and institutions.

We are active in various thematic areas of the science and innovation system.

For example, we have many years of experience in German and European higher education and science policy, in the support for SMEs and start-ups, and in regional economic and cluster policy. In addition, we analyse specific challenges of innovation policy, such as digitisation, social innovations and citizen science, regulatory instruments of innovation financing as well as topics at the interface of innovation and (vocational) education.

In the field of environmental economics, members of our team are part of the scientific staff of the German Council of Experts on Climate Change. In related projects we prepare a broad variety of studies on topics ranging from emission certificate trading to sustainability aspects of digitisation or the mobility of the future. Increasingly, we are also involved in international cooperation with countries of the Global South, e.g. on innovation or education topics.

Our experts are active nationally and internationally. Our German clients range from federal and state ministries (BMBF, BMWK, BMU, AA) to foundations (Mercator, Bosch and others) and other intermediaries such as innovation agencies. We also work on projects for the various Directorates-General of the European Commission as well as for international institutions such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

We maintain close partnerships with a large number of renowned institutions. In our projects, we regularly cooperate with experts from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, colleagues with supplementary thematic expertise (e.g. on legal questions), other innovation research environmental and climate research institutes, Projektträgern (e.g. DLR-PT and VDI / VDE-IT) as well as universities and research institutions from all over Germany.

The management team of Technopolis Germany consists of the two Managing Partners Dr. Florian Berger and Jérôme Treperman as  well as Prof. Dr.  Thomas Heimer as scientific director.
