Marilina Vieira joined the Africa Office of the Technopolis Group late 2024. Passionate about international development and the role small and medium-sized firms play in fostering an inclusive and sustainable development, she is a Principal Consultant with more than 15 years of international experience in-and-on research and policy work.
She has an extensive experience across international organizations, the private sector, and NGOs. Her most recent role, a decade-long tenure at the World Bank as Team Leader and Private Sector Development Specialist, equipped her with a strong background in policy analysis and knowledge dissemination as well as honing the ability to design and implement complex projects and conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative research. She has developed an expertise in data collection and processing through questionnaires, standardized case studies, interviews, and field visits. Mariline has co-authored and translated research into actionable policy reform recommendations for more than twelve World Bank knowledge reports about SMEs regulations and their implementation—across multiple continents, including Africa (Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa), South America (Brazil, Colombia, Honduras), Asia (Afghanistan), and Europe (Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Slovakia, and Spain). These reports, funded by external donors or respective governments, served as public policy tools. They provided a diagnostic and monitoring framework for policymakers, offering actionable data, detailed analyses and tailored reform recommendations.
Before joining the World Bank Group, Marilina worked in microfinance, where she helped establish the first branches of a financial inclusion group in Mexico and Madagascar. She also has experience in business development for small entrepreneurs in France. Marilina holds a master’s degree in development economics from the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France.
Fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, Marilina has managed projects and teams and authored reports in all four languages.
