Flavio Carrera Verdesoto is a Consultant at Technopolis with over 9 years of experience in sustainable development, gender studies, and social policy analysis and evaluation. He is a researcher interested in cross-cutting topics such as feminist political ecology, gender-based violence prevention, LGBTIQ+ rights, and regional development, with skills in mixed-methods research, project management, and policy analysis.

Flavio’s previous work experience spans multiple sectors and international organizations. At the Inter-American Development Bank, he led a Technical Cooperation program to strengthen the response of the security and justice sector to prevent violence against LGBTQ+ people in Argentina, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. With the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), he coordinated the development of the Cuenca Voluntary Local Review for Sustainable Development Goals. As a consultant for UN Women, he conducted research on conflicts and conflict analysis in Ecuador and Peru, contributing to the countries’ Peace and Security Agendas.

At the Universidad San Francisco de Quito and Galapagos Science Centre, Flavio managed a project on violence prevention and strengthening specialized systems of integral protection of rights in the Galapagos Islands. He also worked with the German Development Agency (GIZ) on a project to prevent corruption and promote transparency in Ecuador. His experience extends to the private sector, where he managed educational and social responsability projects across Latin America and the Caribbean for Equilibrium SDC.

Flavio is also a research associate at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Inequalities (IASI – USFQ), where he leads projects on feminist political ecology and historical legacies of gender-based violence in the Galapagos Islands. He co-founded and co-directed the Programa UNIDiversidad at USFQ, developing standards and protocols for addressing discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, sexuality, religion, disability, and origin.

Flavio obtained his MSc in Anthropology and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and his BA in International Relations from Universidad San Francisco de Quito. He is a native Spanish speaker, is fluent in English, and has mid knowledge of Portuguese and French.
