Mónica Salazar is the Managing Partner of Technopolis Group Colombia, leading the market development in Latin American and the Caribbean of the group.

She has over 30 years of experience, specialized in research, innovation and institutional capacity-building, policymaking and indicators. She has developed her career in a hybrid way, being a public official (national and international levels) and a researcher in Colombia and Canada. In the development of research and consulting projects she has developed skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as in-depth, semi-structured and structured interviews, case studies, focus groups, surveys, and literature reviews.

As a consultant she has worked in overall Latin America and the Caribbean and for many international organizations such as Unesco, Unesco Institute of Statistics, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada.

She was the Executive Director for 7 years, of a non-profit organization dedicated to the research and production of indicators in STI – the Colombian Observatory of Science and Technology. Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Monica worked for the IDB, at the Competitiveness, Technology and Innovation Division. During this time, she was responsible for Colombia and Ecuador, providing financial support and technical assistance for the development of innovation, technology transfer, business development and digital transformation activities. She was member of the Oslo Manual Revision Steering Group, set up by the OECD National Experts on Science and Technology Indicators (NESTI) Working Party.

Monica has a degree in Economics from Universidad del Rosario in Colombia. She has master’s degree from the University of Manchester (UK) and a Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, Canada). She is fluent in Spanish and English and has advanced knowledge of French.
