Bauke van der Veldt MSc is a consultant at the Amsterdam office of Technopolis Group. His focus areas are climate change policy, green economy, higher education, and international development. He is trained in research methods such as focus groups, desk research, interviews, survey design, workshops, and impact assessments.
Bauke has been involved in various complex programme evaluations, spanning across various themes, geographies and sectors. As a project coordinator he is involved in setting up a monitoring and evaluation framework for the SWITCH to Circular Economy Project in Egypt, where collection, repair and refurbishment of electronic devices is aimed at boosting the local economy. In addition, Bauke is involved in the Mission Ocean Implementation Platform, where he works on setting up the monitoring system and facilitates the implementation of Mission funded projects. Both projects cover various thematic areas and stakeholders on the local, regional, national and international level.
His work for the European Eastern Partnership has focused on monitoring and evaluating the state of the research and innovation landscape of both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. In collaboration with the Joint Research Centre, Bauke has written reports on the development of the private sector, entrepreneurship and ecosystems supporting innovation in both countries. In his work within higher education Bauke has worked on developing a monitoring tool for the Dutch Ministry of Education and Science. It aims to inform the ministry on the state of affairs regarding (social) safety for scientists and lays out the challenges regarding prevention of hate, intimidation and violence against scientists. Furthermore, he conducted research into the topic of self-censorship within higher education, focusing on innovative ways to reduce censorship in the sector.
Before joining Technopolis, Bauke worked in various governmental bodies. His focus on both the provincial and municipal level was on climate change, improving air quality, and reducing emissions within the mobility sector. His work with the municipality included implementing environmental zones, regional cooperation and setting up pilots together with private sector stakeholders. At the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he worked on broadening and deepening diplomatic ties with West-African countries with focus on: climate, conflict, food, water and energy security. Additionally, he was involved in evaluating climate policy of a number of West African countries. Lastly, he spent time in Seneca Lake, New York, where he helped organize a grass roots movement aimed at protecting local biodiversity and quality of water.
Bauke obtained his bachelor’s degree at the University of Groningen, here he focused on international relations and international politics. In addition, he obtained a minor in conflict studies from the State University of Geneseo, New York. Bauke continued his studies of International Relations and Politics at the University of Leiden. The focus of this master’s degree was on international development and conflict resolution.
Born in the Northeast of the Netherlands, Bauke is fluent in Dutch (Native speaker) and has a good understanding of Frisian. In addition, he is fluent in English (C2) and has a basic level of both German (B1) and French (B1).
