Phoebe Cuthbertson-Smith joined the UK Green Economy team as an Analyst in November 2023. She has been developing her expertise in public policy evaluation with a particular interest in environmental and energy policy. Throughout her academic and professional experience, Phoebe has developed a range of qualitative research skills.

In her previous role, she worked as a Sustainability Manager for the start-up investment firm Green Investment Partners, developing her industry knowledge of climate change and energy policies. Here, she led the research for the company’s first Impact Report, conducting an environmental, social and governance review of investee companies. Prior to this, she was the Operations and Sustainability Intern for the firm, providing consulting services to offer support to Fund Managers with business operations activities and contributed to the support and management of external service providers.

Phoebe is a First Class graduate from University College London (UCL) who read Arts and Sciences: Health and Environment, focusing on biological and social science modules. She also completed a Master’s degree from UCL in Environment, Politics and Society, which inlcuded a Research Dissertation using critical discourse analysis to examine different narratives around cobalt mining and the political-ecological dynamics of human rights abuse in supply chains of lithium-ion batteries. She is fluent in English and speaks conversational Japanese.
