Access to medicinal products

For European citizens, access to medicines and vaccines can be affected by many different factors. These include selective marketing by pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy stock-outs and differences in national pricing and reimbursement systems. The Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) for the European Parliament commissioned Technopolis Group to conduct an in-depth analysis on access to medicine.
In this analysis, we have reviewed the actions taken by the European Commission since the adoption of a parliamentary resolution to improve access to medicine in 2017. This analysis includes illustrative examples of actions taken by Member States and others.
The report was presented to Members of the European Parliament and other interested parties during the webinar ‘Equal Access to Medicines and Therapies’, organised by Health Working Group of the European Parliament. It brought together external experts for exchanges of views on the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe. You can view the event here.
