Technopolis Group

Our colleagues from Technopolis Group Belgium, Gareth O’Neill and Istvan Karasz have recently published the EOSC Catalogue of Best Practices in the EOSC Future project. The catalogue has been drafted in close collaboration with Thomas Neidenmark from the European Commission and Volker Beckmann (Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation in France) and Sofia Abrahamsson (Swedish Research Council) from the EOSC Steering Board.

The EOSC Catalogue of Best Practices showcases examples of the national implementation of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and Open Science across Europe. The catalogue highlights 82 use cases that have been collected from the representatives of the Member States and Associated Countries (MS/AC) in the EOSC Steering Board. The use cases are identified according to one of eight categories relevant for publications, data, software, services, infrastructure, skills/training, assessment, and engagement. The catalogue provides a glimpse of the activities currently taking place to implement EOSC and Open Science in Europe and will be updated in the future as new use cases are identified.

The EOSC Catalogue of Best Practices is one of the concrete outcomes of the pilot Survey on National Contributions to EOSC 2021 that has been conducted by the EOSC Future project. The use cases provide policy makers and the EOSC community with reference examples on the implementation of EOSC and Open Science and support mutual learning exercises by MS/AC. The catalogue contributes to the targeted outcome of identifying and showcasing best practices for ERA Action 1 on ‘Enabling the Open Sharing of Knowledge and the Re-use of Research Outputs, including through the Development of the EOSC’. The catalogue is also relevant for the EOSC Association and the objectives of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of the EOSC Partnership.

The annual Surveys on National Contributions to EOSC will continually collect use cases from MS/AC which will be updated and presented in the dashboard of the EOSC Observatory. For more information on the observatory, which is being developed by Technopolis Group Belgium and OpenAIRE in the EOSC Future project see this short introduction video and introduction article. All relevant documents and files related to the EOSC Observatory are published openly in the EOSC Observatory Zenodo Community.

[The EOSC Catalogue of Best Practices and the EOSC Observatory have been developed within the frame of the EOSC Future project which is co-funded by the European Union Horizon Programme call INFRAEOSC-03-2020 – Grant Agreement Number 101017536]
