Sophie is a senior consultant specialising in sustainable development and international cooperation, with expertise in climate change impacts, agrifood systems, conflict risk, migration dynamics, and water management. She has experience working for multilateral organisations, governmental research institutes and academia, making her skilled in bridging the science-policy interface through quantitative and qualitative research methods. Her expertise includes foresight and scenario development, horizon scanning spatial data analysis, expert elicitation, interviewing, project coordination, workshop facilitation and communication of complex matters to diverse stakeholders. Before joining Technopolis, she worked on a broad array of research and advice projects in various roles. For example, she has worked on the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) flagship report the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2023 report. At the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, she worked on  systemic research projects for UN agencies (IFAD, UNCCD, UN-Water) and Dutch ministries, resulting in publications like “The Geography of Future Water Challenges” and “Urbanisation as driver of food system transformation and opportunities for rural livelihoods”.

Sophie holds a PhD from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, focussed on developing scenarios of conflict risk, migration and equity implications in response to socioeconomic and environmental change, advancing the field through machine learning, vulnerability assessments and expert elicitation methods. She holds a MSc in Environmental Sciences from Wageningen University and a BSc in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Utrecht University. She is fluent in Dutch and English.
