Maike Rentel
Associate Consultant
Maike Rentel is an Associate Principal Consultant at Technopolis with 20+ years first-hand experience in science research and policy and a strong background in academic research in the life sciences. She has extensive experience in evaluation methodologies, with a focus on qualitative research / stakeholder interview programmes, as well as literature reviews, and case study development in highly technical areas.
Maike’s recent projects include reviews of the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD), the Health System Research Initiative (MRC, Wellcome, FCDO, ESRC), the Joint Initiative on Epidemic Preparedness and Response (Wellcome Trust, DfID), the Joint Global Health Trials Initiative (UK MRC, Wellcome Trust, DfID, DHSC), the impact assessment of the Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme (NIHR), and the 10-year evaluation of the UK Medical Research Council’s translational research portfolio (UK MRC).
Prior to joining Technopolis, Maike was the Vice Consul for Science & Innovation at the British Consulate-General in San Francisco where she supported programmes fostering research collaborations between UK and US scientists and facilitated connections between international research funders, policy makers, and industry. During her scientific research career, Maike held postdoctoral positions in molecular/cell biology at UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco. She obtained a PhD from the University of Oxford (Plant Sciences/Molecular Biology), and a BSc from the University of Edinburgh (Biochemistry/Biological Sciences).
Fluent in German (native speaker) and English, Maike has a good working knowledge of French and Spanish.
