Technopolis Group as part of research team led by Politecnico di Milano launched a project for ESPON to develop an understanding about what technological transformation means from a territorial perspective through investigating the territorial dimensions of economic transformation, i.e. how emerging technologies and new business models are reshaping regional economies in different contexts and in different parts of Europe, and what other spatial and structural changes it may bring about.

The study will provide European evidence on the territorial dimension of the transitioning of regional economies in terms of potential opportunities and challenges associated with the adoption of advances in information and communication technologies and cyber-physical systems and will develop and improve knowledge about the territorial implications of technological transformations and recommendations for European, national, regional and local policy makers to prepare and adapt to the emerging trends and the impacts it may bring in a wider socio-spatial context.
