A Survey on Patent Licensing Activities by Patenting Firms
Publication date: 17 December 2013 | Report language: EN
As part of a consortium with Bocconi University and KU Leuven, Technopolis studied, on behalf of the European Commission, DG Research and Innovation, the patent/technology out- and in-licensing behaviour of European firms. To this end, Technopolis launched the largest and most detailed survey on patentees in Europe to date. Based on responses of 330 patent-holding firms, the PATLICE survey found that the importance of licensing increased considerably across all major patent-affine industries between 2008 and 2011. The report discussed issues such as motives and barriers for technology out- and in-licensing, it scrutinised the ways licensors made contact with licensees or traced the licensing revenue flows across countries and regions. For all these questions, detailed breakdowns according to variables such as industry sectors or company size were made available.
