Maike Rentel is an associate consultant with 15+ years first-hand experience in science research and policy, in the UK and abroad, and a strong background in academic research in the life sciences. She has been involved and led numerous projects, including programme evaluations, future scoping studies, R&D landscape mapping and organisational strategy reviews. Maike has extensive experience in the development of impact frameworks for R&I programmes and qualitative research methods, with a focus on interview techniques and case studies.

Maike joined the Technopolis Group in Jan 2014, and is a core member of the Health division, working closely with the Principal for Health to shape the company’s strategic direction and support health projects across the board. Prior to joining Technopolis, Maike was the Vice Consul for Science & Innovation at the British Consulate-General in San Francisco (2007-2012). In this role, she authored 25+ reports for UK government on US science and policy developments, created projects to support scientific collaboration and led on the organisation of high-level UK visits to the US. 

During her scientific research career, Maike held postdoctoral positions in molecular biology / cell biology at UC Berkeley (2005-2007) and UC San Francisco (2003-2007). She obtained a PhD from the University of Oxford (2002), and a BSc from the University of Edinburgh (1999). She also holds a degree in business and languages (1995; English, French, Spanish) from Zeppelin Universität Friedrichshafen (Germany). Fluent in German and English, Maike has a good working knowledge of French and Spanish.
