Alessio Giustolisi is a Senior Consultant at the Technopolis Group, based in Vienna, Austria. His work focuses on regional development and innovation policy. Before joining Technopolis, Alessio gained international experience as a young professional economist at Mekong Economics, a development consultancy in Hanoi, Vietnam. There, he was involved in technical assistance projects related to foreign direct investments for the Asian Development Bank, among others. Between 2018 and 2020, Alessio worked as a researcher at the Institute for Work and Technology in Germany, focusing on regional innovation and sectoral studies. During this time, he conducted studies for ministries and regional organizations. From 2020 to 2023, Alessio worked as a Marie-Curie PhD Fellow at the University of Vienna in the project consortium POLISS (Policies for Smart Specialisation). Alessio is trained as an economic geographer, having studied at the University of Cologne, the University of Amsterdam, and University College Dublin. He is currently enrolled as a PhD student at the Department of Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna. His dissertation focuses on smart specialization and regional transformative and challenge-oriented innovation policies.
