Stijn Zegel works as a partner at Technopolis B.V. in Amsterdam. Stijn focuses on the knowledge economy in relation to public policy. Topics often relate to innovation, entrepreneurship, science, ecosystems & clusters, SMEs, internationalisation, education & skills and collaboration & public-private partnerships. He contributes frequently to complex evaluations, strategic studies, large scale implementation projects and other studies. Methodologies that he frequently applies are surveys, interviews, case studies, workshops, (big) data/statistical analyses, data-management, (international) benchmarking and data visualisation. He has been actively working on projects on European/international, national and regional level. Next to his role as principal consultant Stijn takes part in the Management Team of Technopolis Group Amsterdam and acts as the supervisor of a third of the team.
Stijn worked on large complex assignments for the European Commission like the Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership, the Impact Assessment of the Institutionalised Partnerships under Horizon Europe and evaluations of the COSME programme, the SME Instrument and the Enterprise Europe Network. In these evaluation studies Stijn took the lead in the evaluation of the strategic objective ‘Access to markets’ and managed the data gathering and analyses for a large number of national/regional support agencies and SMEs across the EU and beyond. He also developed an online learning platform for EASME regarding cultural differences and doing international business.
Next to that Stijn has worked on many national assignments related to internationalisation, innovation and economic policy, such as the evaluation of TTW Perspective an instrument for stimulating research performed in collaboration with industry in the Netherlands, the strategic explorative study regarding the mission driven focus within the Dutch SME Innovation Stimulation Region and Top Sectors instrument, or the evaluations of the policy and funding instruments for World-class Ecosystems in Finland.
Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Stijn studied Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), during which he studied technological innovations in both the private and public sector from a policy perspective.
Stijn is fluent in Dutch and English.
