Maria Stalla is Senior Consultant at Technopolis Germany with extensive experience in public policy evaluation with a particular focus on international cooperation and development as well as research and education policy. She has contributed to various evaluations and studies for European and national public bodies and foundations such as the European Commission, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Maria is experienced in the conception, management and implementation of complex studies using qualitative and quantitative methods such as interviews, surveys, focus groups, desk research, (AI-supported) document analysis, literature reviews, web scraping and statistical analysis.

Currently, Maria contributes to multiple projects in the field of international cooperation. For instance, in the Evaluation of the Global Partnership for Education’s (GPE) Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) Program, she is involved in conceptualising and implementing interviews, focus groups, an online survey, and an AI-based document analysis. Furthermore, she is part of the expert team for the corporate strategy evaluation on GIZ’s cooperation with scientific actors, manages a study on gender equality in research and teaching for the state of Berlin, and contributes to the evaluation of the Global Centres for Climate and Health for the DAAD.

Before joining Technopolis Group, Maria worked for the Chair for Politics in the European Multilevel System at Goethe University Frankfurt, where she contributed to research on EU public policies and international political economy with a focus on the circular economy. She also worked for the Hessian state government as a researcher, comparing the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany and Italy. Previously, Maria interned at the department West Africa of the KfW Development Bank.

Maria obtained her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Law from Heidelberg University and a master’s degree in Political Science from Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. During her studies, she spent exchange semesters at the University of Florence in Italy and UMass Boston, MA, USA. She is a native speaker of German and Russian, fluent in English and has advanced knowledge of Italian and French.
