Germany
Technopolis Group opened its German office in Frankfurt in 2009 and established a second office in Berlin in 2017. We have established ourselves as one of Germany’s leading policy consultancies.
- We evaluate policy measures and institutions and provide strategic support.
- We advise on the design of new funding strategies and instruments.
- We implement programmes and initiatives for our clients, often in close collaboration with our international sister offices.
We are active in various policy areas.
- We build on our traditional focus, working on science, technology and innovation policies. This includes policy instruments targeted at universities (e.g. collaborative research, knowledge transfer, research careers etc) or the innovation ecosystem (support for SMEs and start-ups, regional economic and cluster policies).
- We increasingly work on higher education topics as well as other education areas like VET and policies focusing future skills development.
- We often work on international projects – with a specific focus on cooperation with the Global South. We continuously collaborate with our sister offices in Europe, Africa and Latin America.
- In addition, we analyse specific challenges such as environmental and climate policies (e.g. in the transport and energy sector and carbon pricing).
- The digitisation of science, business and society is a additional – and growing – area, from digitisation of public administration to digital infrastructures for science.
Our experts have a background in various disciplines: from economics to political science, from environmental policy to engineering, from communication science to philosophy.
Our clients
- Our German clients range from federal and state ministries (e.g. BMFTR, BMWE, BMU, AA) to agencies and intermediaries (e.g. Umweltbundesamt, Agentur für Cybersicherheit, Innovationsagenturen, GIZ).
- We have worked for all major science organisations (German Research Council, Leibniz Gemeinschaft, Alexander von Humbold Foundation, DAAD) and various philanthropic foundations such as Stiftung Mercator or Bosch Stiftung.
- We also work on projects for the various Directorates-General of the European Commission as well as for international institutions such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

Our Approach
Around 40 colleagues in Berlin and Frankfurt/Main strive to help solve societal problems, strengthen the economy and improve policies and organisations. Our work is based on overall principles shared between all Technopolis sister offices. This includes our focus on independent, evidence-based and analytical work, tailored to specific client needs. Through continuous consultation and involvement of our clients and other stakeholders we help shape policies that support innovation and sustainable growth. We have clear environmental and ethical policies guiding our work.
We maintain close partnerships with a large number of renowned institutions. In our projects, we regularly cooperate with experts from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, colleagues with supplementary thematic expertise (e.g. on legal questions), other innovation research environmental and climate research institutes, Projektträgern as well as universities and research institutions from all over Germany.
